How the number is calculated
Three figures, one start date, no discretion applied.

Someone three years and change into a job is 3.2.40: three completed years, in the second quarter of the fourth, forty business days into that quarter.
Why quarters start on your anniversary
Because it is your number, not the company’s. Anchoring to a calendar or fiscal quarter would mean two people with identical tenure showing different figures, which defeats the purpose. Quarter 1 begins on the day you started; quarter 4 ends the day before your next anniversary. If an anniversary lands past the end of a month it rolls forward: three months after 31 January is 1 May.
Why weekends do not count
Monday to Friday only, with no holiday calendar, because no holiday calendar could be correct for everyone. Saturday and Sunday produce no change. Neither does annual leave, which the site has no way of knowing about and would not record if it did.
Records
None are kept. The start date is read from the address bar and nowhere else — names, dates, the format, and on a notice the remarks and who submitted it. There is no account, no database and nothing to request under any policy. This is not a benefit.
